Everyone is going somewhere. Haven’t you seen it? As you cruise down the interstate, people pass you on your left and on your right. Walking down the mall, young, old, male, female - everyone seems on their way to somewhere.

A famous country and western song says, “life is a highway,” and everyone is riding it somewhere.

As we journey on this road, many questions zip in and out of our minds. Some questions are fleeting, others linger. "What road am I on? Where am I going? How am I going to get there? Why does my road feel so lonely?”

From the very beginning of time God never intended humans to walk the road of this world alone, searching, wondering, confused. We were never created to zip from road to road, twisting, turning, getting lost and confused – hoping to figure out our life and our way. In fact, at the beginning God used to walk alongside “the path of life” with our parents in a garden, in the cool of the day. The path of life was one of joy, excitement, and discovery – on which God led the first parents, walking and talking as they went.

As our first parents Adam and Eve walked this path, sadly a major “collision” occurred - a fatal collision of eternal proportions. Adam and Eve decided to “blaze their own trail” - go their own way - and they chose to disobey the Creator. Swerving out of control they left God’s path and relationally “crashed.” The moment they chose to disobey God, His will and His ways, they became separated, lost and unable to make their way back. Adam and Eve took off running to hide from a holy God (to whom they were supposed to listen and obey) and man has been running and hiding in the side ditches of life ever since. As a result, all humanity was plunged into rebellion, alienation, and separation from God and the path of life He planned and desired. Following the path of our fathers, “all turned aside . . . there is no one that is right with God . . . no one seeks God . . . not even one . . . and the path of peace they have not known.” (Romans 3:9-18).

God, in His grace and mercy, would not leave mankind wandering on the road of life - hopeless and helpless - but instead sent His Son to make known again the path of life. God the Son, who eternally existed in Heaven, left Heaven and came to this earth. As Jesus Christ He took on humanity that He might guide us, teach us, and give Himself as a payment for our rebellion and defiance. In humility, love, and sacrifice He presented Himself as “the way, the truth, and the life” and declared that no one could come back to the Father but through Him (John 14:6). Jesus Christ was crucified, paying the penalty for sin, was buried in a tomb, and then three days later picked His body back up proving that He has all authority and power in the universe.

Through Jesus Christ, God the Father turns again to mankind and makes known the path of life. On life’s road, God through His Spirit reaches out and calls each person to turn from the “dead-end” streets of self-sufficiency, the arrogance of thinking that “I can find my own way” and the certain eternal separation that awaits those who choose their own road.

In this world, some have come to realize the futility and waywardness of their own path. Some have recognized the truth that their “path” would never end in a relationship forever with God, but only in an eternal dead end of loneliness and suffering. Some have come to realize Christ came to save them from the road of futility and restore them to the “path of life . . . the fullness of His joy . . . and to enjoy His pleasures forever.” (Psalms 11:6). Recognizing their sin, they have turned, reached out their hand of faith to walk with Him again on the path of peace, joy, and His presence forever. Out of gratitude for His grace and restoration, these individuals now “walk the path of life” in gratitude telling others of His plan and path.

We hope that you too will discover His path of life.
