History
Out of a burden for a church where people were “real” and individuals were “accepted;” where there was “unity in essentials,
liberty in non-essentials, and charity in all,” the Holy Spirit drew together a fledgling group of people, and Faith was born!
With only thirty-five people - adults and children included - a few families gathered in December of 1989 and called themselves
“Faith Bible Chapel.” Several of the original individuals had roots in the Plymouth Brethren heritage, which often prefers
referring to their gatherings as “chapels.” Later the group came to be known as “Faith Bible Church.” Within this original
group was the foundational commitment of unity, love, and grace which characterizes Faith to this day.
As a living “body” the church has undergone changes, growth, and development which it continues to this day. Part of that
change has been in locations. Initially the young church rented the facilities of a Seventh Day Adventist group in Livonia,
gathering there on Sunday afternoons. Later, in order to connect more readily with people accustomed to setting aside Sunday
mornings for corporate worship, the church began to look for and found a facility available for rent on Sunday mornings. This
new Seventh Day Adventist building was located in Farmington Hills on 10 mile road, which began Faith’s presence and impact in
the Farmington area. In the late 90s the church started looking for a building to purchase and eventually found the former VFW
Hall on Orchard Lake in Farmington Hills. Eventually, over a multi-year process, the facility was purchased, renovated, and
expanded. The first service in this facility was held in February 2003. Currently Faith continues to meet in this facility
on Sundays.
More important than buildings and facilities, Faith Bible Church has grown and changed in its ministries, people, and staff
without deviating from its desire to exalt Christ and build up God’s people. Under the leadership of Pastor Mark Kieft, who
faithfully served the congregation for seventeen years from its inception, Faith began a journey from birth toward maturitSy to
reflect the image of Christ. Various ministries have been added and developed - from children’s programs, to women’s ministries,
to music and worship teams. With a growing outreach to students, in 2000 the church called Pastor David Berglin to serve as
Faith’s first Youth Pastor. After Pastor David accepted a call to another ministry, in 2005 Faith called Pastor Aaron Walters
to serve as its Youth Pastor, a position in which he currently serves. After seventeen years at Faith Pastor Mark accepted
God’s call to a ministry in the area of Kansas City, MO. In December 2007, Faith called Pastor Jeff Gaskill to serve as her
new Senior Pastor to help facilitate and lead the congregation to a new level and development of ministry.
Faith’s history truly is - “His-Story” - one of growth, maturity, and conformity to the image of God’s dear Son - Jesus Christ.
It is exciting to see what God has accomplished in birthing and building Faith. But as equally thrilling is anticipating the
blessings He has in store for Faith as He continues to work out His story in developing and expanding Faith. |
